Citgo Asphalt Refinery- Tower #1 Replacement

The above picture illustrates the successful completion of a 120’ tower at Citgo Asphalt Refinery in Savannah, Georgia. U.S. Mechanical Contractors LLC demolished the existing tower (piping, structural steel, and tower), fabricated and installed all piping for the new tower, placed the new tower, installed the structural steel, decking, and constructed the concrete foundation. We assisted the electrical crew by installing the cable tray and instrumentation supports

This image to the left illustrates the new tower being lifted from the temporary “A” frame supports. The tower was lifted using a 500-ton crane at the top of the tower and a 110-ton crane to tail the lift. Placing the tower from a preparation area into its production position required two lifts; the first lift placed the tower in a vertical position then moved plant south to a predetermined position plant northwest of its final location while the second lift was a circumferential move into the tower’s final location.
